The cathedral, in the main square, is the oldest building in the town (dating back to 1856). Puerto Montt is the transport hub and access point to the Southern Lakes District, the island of Chiloe and Chilean Patagonia.

The nearby port of Angel, with his outstanding crafts market and Tenglo Island, known for its delicious seafood, provide a warmer temperature.
